The Meuse by Bike
From the Langres Plateau to Hoek van Holland, the 'Meuse by Bike' is a marked trail totalling 1,152 km. Open to cyclists of all levels, this trail crosses France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. All along the trail, 30 stops allow you to discover numerous towns and villages. Along the spectacular valley of the Meuse, the Trans-Ardennes path, section of the Meuse by Bike, offers an easy trail of 123 km between Sedan and Givet, near to the Belgian border.
The Green Lane is based along the old towpath. The train that passes through the valley allows you to modify your bicycle ride and return without being tired. A perfect nature weekend.
Between Charleville and Sedan, the bicycle is the best way to enjoy the meanders of a river that has always been the guiding thread of the Ardennes, its vital flux.
The old townpath along the Meuse is today the dream route of cycle tourists and all those who enjoy a more gentle pace. Taking the Trans-Ardennes Green Lane means disconnecting from the chaos and stress of city life. Take your time and wander. Feast your eyes on forest and your lungs on clean crisp oxygen. Let yourself be won over by the soothing affect of a river with a calm allure.
On the Trans-Ardennes, go in search of river villages, shaped by the metallurgic industrial heritage in the North and by the textile industry in the South. Numerous rest areas and eateries offer you pistops as you breathe in and admire the countryside. Herons, cormorants and water hens are plentiful on the river banks and it is not uncommon to see a deer or beaver pop up in the evening or early morning.
From Nouzonville, you can reach the network of signposted mountain bike trails of the Regional National Park as well as the GR 12. On the side of Sedan, numerous signposted mountain bike trails cut through the Forest of Sedan and the Marfée region: a real treat for bike addicts and fans of steep slopes!
Different rental locations for bikes are at your disposal throughout the year.
